About Kate

Kate is a contemporary painter living in the Upper Kiewa Valley who is well known for her paintings of birds, still life and semi–abstract landscapes, built up with subtle colours and layers of luminous glazes. These works are a distillation of a lifetime of observations.

Kate is currently working on a series of semi abstract and abstract oil paintings. Her works are an exploration of colour, with a focus to flatten and layer pigment on the surface. The range and subtlety of light, and the originality contained within brush marks and mark making evoke depth and atmosphere with colour. Composition, colour, and tonal values are the anchors in her painting process. Kate works with fluidity and imagination.

Recently, Kate launched Mountain Arts Contemporary and is a founder of the Alpine Arts Trail for the Upper Kiewa Valley. Kate has exhibited widely and teaches individuals and groups, both privately and publicly.
